I Live In A High Rise Apartment Building With Elevator Access. How Do I Make Sure We Can Have Sole Use Of The Elevators For Our Move?

Most apartments or condos with elevator access will allow you to reserve an elevator on your move day. Speak with your building manager prior to your move day, so arrangements can be made to lock the elevators during your move. If access to the elevator is via an underground or covered area, our moving company will provide large, wide, Flat Bed Trolleys to efficiently ferry your furniture and boxes between the elevator and the truck.

I’m Worried About My Movers Damaging My T.V., Should I Move It Myself?

You can move your TV if you are more comfortable doing so. Here at Burly Boyz, we feel you should leave it to our professional movers. We have moved thousands of T.V.’s, and we know the care that is required, starting from the protective wrapping, to the handling of all types of T.V.’s. In the entire history of Burly Boyz Moving and Storage we have had no claims for a damaged TV!

When Should I Empty My Refrigerator And Freezer?

Our movers typically load your fridge or freezer onto the truck, towards the end of the job. This ensures the fridge and freezer will be some of the first items unloaded at the drop off. All food must be emptied from the fridge and freezer. It is a good idea to have a cooler available for packing these items on the morning of your move.  Unfortunately, our moving company is not permitted to carry food or perishables.

What Should I Do With My Paintings And Pictures?

The safest way to transport paintings and pictures is to have them bubble wrapped and placed inside of picture/mirror cartons. Our movers can pack them for you on the day of your move. For more information regarding prices for packing materials, visit our “moving supplies” page

How Many Boxes Will I Need To Do My Packing?

Often times, the amount of boxes required for a relocation is underestimated.  Below is an indicator of approximately how many boxes you may need to pack depending on the size of your home. Please note that this may vary depending on how many possessions you have.

Whole house pack indicator:

  • One bedroom apartment: 45 boxes
  • Three bedroom house: 125 boxes

  • Small kitchen approx.: 18 boxes

What Do I Need To Do To Prepare My Appliances For The Move?

Your movers will wrap your large appliances in furniture pads to protect them on the truck. For maximum protection, request blanket wrapping followed by shrink wrapping prior to lifting. Ensure that all fridges, stoves, dishwashers, microwaves, dryers and washing machines are empty. Movers are neither electricians nor plumbers – you the customer, will be responsible for arranging the disconnection of all your appliances, prior to our movers moving them. Reconnections are also the customers responsibility.

Front load washing machines require shipping bolts to be inserted in the back of the machine to secure the drum in place.

Professional installation of entertainment systems in Edmonton can be carried out by http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/geeksquad.aspx.
All small appliances should be packed in boxes prior to moving, preferably encased in a layer of bubble wrap first for optimum protection.

Do I Have To Empty The Drawers Of My Dressers And Filling Cabinets?

Yes. Full drawers are more likely to cause damages to that piece of furniture when it is being handled. Also, your movers will appreciate it, if the load is lightened.

All of our trucks, are all equipped with the necessary tools, for our movers to attend to basic dismantling and reassembly of furniture items including: bed headboards and bed frames, shelving, desks, tables and other standard residential and office furniture items.

Can My Plants Be Moved?

Yes, we can move them; however, we cannot ensure the safe transport of live plants, which can be traumatized by motion, temperature extremes, or the time spent in the moving truck. Plants cannot be stored. To make the plants easier for our movers to transport, try not to water them for a few days prior.

Do You Move BBQ’s And How Should I Prepare My BBQ?

Yes we move BBQ’s. First you must remove the propane tank, unfortunately, our moving company cannot transport propane tanks. Make sure your BBQ is clean or has a cover to protect against dirtying any other items in the truck.

Can I Use Garbage Bags To Pack My Clothes?

We always prefer our customers to use boxes rather than Garbage bags; they do not stack very easily and are not as sturdy and secure as boxes.  As a general rule, we do not refuse to take items packed in garbage bags as long as you are moving within Edmonton or Alberta but if you are moving out of province, then boxes are mandatory.

How Do I Know How Much Packing Material To Order?

When you book your move with us, we can deliver an oversupply of boxes and packing materials; any materials which are not used can be returned. The delivery is free of charge provided that you are in moving in Edmonton.

What Can I Do To Ensure That My Belongings End Up In The Correct Room?

Please label your boxes to the appropriate rooms in which you would like our movers to deliver them to.  For example: Kitchen, Living Room, Bathroom, Master Bedroom, Joey’s Bedroom, Basement, etc.  Fragile boxes should be clearly labeled as fragile. Choose fragile box tape or stickers for best visibility.

I Live In A Densely Populated Area. Parking Is Limited What Should I Do?

Make sure you arrange parking for the moving truck before your moving day. Inform your neighbors that you need the parking area clear for the moving truck. Try to clear the area of vehicles the night before. If you live in downtown Edmonton, you may be required to obtain parking permits from the city.

Is It Possible To Move During Inclement Weather?

When booking your move, it is not possible to know what the weather will be doing on your Move Day. Often the date of your move is a fixed date and cannot be changed. While it may be more pleasurable to move on a sunny day, our professional movers are prepared to move during snow, rain, sleet, or even extreme heat. They come equipped with supplies to keep your belongings safe from all the elements.

What If My Relocation Does Not Fit In One Load?

At Burly Boyz we offer the largest known, single axle, 26 ft. moving trucks in Edmonton, which can be safely driven on suburban streets. The capacity of our trucks is such that a 3 to 4 bedroom home, (approximately 12000 cubic pounds), contents can be transported in one load. Most of the moves we do are completed in one trip. In some cases, due to circumstances, two trips may be required. If this is the case, and the pick-up and drop off addresses are in Edmonton or within a short distance from each other, a second load may be required. If you have same day property settlement time constraints or if moving distance is far apart we can provide a second truck. In addition, all of our trucks are equipped to pull trailers.

Both My Properties Are Settling On The Same Day. How Do I Know What Time To Book The Movers?

If you know your settlement date, it is important that you secure your Move Day with Burly Boyz as soon as possible. The actual start time of your move can be decided closer to the day, when you know the settlement times of the properties. This information is usually available about 7 to 10 days prior to settlement, so please advise us, as soon as you know. Then we can try to set the start time as close as possible, to align with the time constraints of the settlements.

What Preparations Should I Make For My Move During The Winter?

Please ensure that your Driveway, sidewalks and paths are cleared of snow and ice

Can I Help The Movers?

Our movers are highly trained moving professionals, and while your offer to help is appreciated, your assistance may actually end up hindering progress. You could end up injuring yourself or others, or cause damage to items, items which will then be voided from our guarantee.

I’m Having Difficulty Arranging Transportation On Moving Day. Can I Ride In The Cab Of The Moving Truck With The Movers?

Unfortunately we cannot transport customers for liability reasons.

Do The Movers Take Time Off For Lunch? Do I Need To Provide Lunch For Them?

Moving is a physically demanding job, that will require the crew to take time to eat and drink during the day. On large scale relocations, the movers will typically take a lunch break between the load and unload. Although greatly appreciated by the crew, it is not expected nor is it a requirement for the customer to provide lunch, snacks, or liquid refreshments. On extremely hot days, the crews may require extra liquid replenishment, so please ensure that there is an accessible water source on your premises.

Should I Tip The Movers?

As in other service industries, you may wish to offer our moving crew a gratuity. While it is not expected, we recommend you tip ONLY if our moving company exceeded your expectations.
